Prior to the following report (which I recorded with a digital recorder so as not to miss salient points) the two sitters, along with myself, were sharing a cup of tea in the dining room at my home. Both new sitters felt that they had met previously somewhere prior to meeting within the Circle setting, and were quietly trying to work out whether they had ever worked in the same location.

As they talked together, both felt that they 'had a problem' and were 'rubbing each other up the wrong way'. They had both felt this all evening.

One of them then turned to the other and asked firmly "What's your problem?". The response came immediately, with the other saying confidently that they had lived in a small stone-built house, up a hill. The first person took this up quickly by saying that, walking down the hill led to the quay. A left along the Quay was where the boats were, and on the right was a pub called the Rising Moon.

The story unfolded:

The gentleman sitter was a captain of a boat....he travelled a lot, possibly to America. He felt that the couple might have lived in Bristol. He wore a blue jacket with gold braid. He drank strong whisky and had shoulder length hair, he was smooth shaven during the week, but 'let himself go' at weekends. He felt that he had 'made something of himself'.

His wife, the female sitter, had long brown hair, which her husband wished her to braid into neat coils. He brought her long beautiful dresses, which she wore. She herself preferred her hair unbrushed and loose. Her husband wished her to wear shoes, whereas she preferred to walk bare footed. Disputes occured within their home as a result. Her husband described her scathingly as a "Wilful woman!"

She kept the house clean by sweeping. She swept harder when annoyed with her husband. She cooked on a large range, carrying heavy kettles of water by resting them on her arms and against her hip. Both agreed that there were no children of the marriage. The year wasn't clear...1860 was mentioned.

*********************

Throughout the exchange, as detail was given, all was offered quickly, as if both were 'on the same wavelength' and knew their story to be true. These past life memories were genuinely felt to be shared. But, as is our custom within the Lodge, we sought evidence of the presented facts.

For your interest, Lynne (another circle member) researched the story and reported:

There is no Rising Moon on Bristolslostpubs (http://www.bristolslostpubs.com/page8.html) but several Rising Suns including one with the address 'Quay'. I have looked at an old map and the Quay is along the river opposite where the Hippodrome is now, from Clare Street to The Grove, now called Broad Quay & Narrow Quay.

St Nicholas Market history: The Guild of Merchant Taylors was set up by Charter of Richard II in 1399. The Guild's Hall was erected in Tailors' Court in 1740. Traders originally set up their market stalls in High Street and Broad Street until the Exchange was built in Corn Street. Before the Exchange was built merchants used to conduct business in the street.Four flat topped pillars called the Nails are still in Corn Street today. Merchants would strike one of the Nails when a transaction was agreed giving rise to the expression “to pay on the Nail”. St Nicholas Market was built next door to the Exchange in 1743 for the sale of fruit and vegetables.(from: http://www.bristol-link.co.uk/history/old-city.htm )

FURTHER NOTE:

Christine is qualified to practise as a Past Life Therapist and Hypnotherapist. Her experience to date has offered only one case that she personally feels was most likely to be a genuine recall of a past life experience. Although this one particular case has been difficult to dismiss as being 'something else'. It is her theory that through meditation, trance and similar altered states of consciousness the subconscious mind may become better linked to the wider universal consciousness, and shared throughts may then be evoked and perhaps considered to be those of the participating individual. As always, we live to learn...

FINALLY:

The case of the two sitters, which Chris personally witnessed and recorded, was not 'caused' any hypnotic condition.
